Every year for the past two years now, Jacob and I made Valentines cards for his class. He brings them to their Valentines Day party and gives them to his classmates, and in return he gets cards from them, too! I really enjoyed doing arts and crafts with Jacob every time; he loves to help, too! In fact, he looks forward to this moment every year. I am glad because he shows his interests in arts and also learning something he can be proud of.

Mommy Moments: Girls/Mommys Day Out

Not very often I get the chance to spend time alone. I am always busy taking care of my son and husband's need at home. As a Mom, I also want to contribute with our finances, and so during my spare time, I work on the computer blogging and doing some paid posts to earn some money. On top of that, I also go to church regularly magnifying my calling as a teacher for 7-8 year old children. My life can be boring at times. Good thing I have few friends whom I can spend my 'me' time with. As always, every time we go out eat, shop, or just visit a botanical garden, I always have so much fun! Last week, we went shopping a little at the mall, had lunch and some chatting :-) which was the highlights of our girls day out. Someday, I would like to have a night out, too with them. Anyway, here are few photos taken when we went to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical garden.

Allowance for Jacob

This morning while we were eating our breakfast, Jacob was talking about the things he wants for his birthday. I can not help but smile hearing him say the lists. These are on his list: an iPhone, a pet (puppy or fish), Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, and his own set of scriptures. Who knows what else he would add to the lists before his birthday comes in July, lol. Anyway, I was thinking that it is time for him to understand money or its concept. He needs to understand that he can not get whatever he wants without working to get it. He is old enough to help in he house, and so I was thinking of giving him a job or tell him to help in the house for that is how he earns the money or allowance.

Suze Orman had great advice. She said give the child 1o cents per minute for the time he/she takes to do a task.Jacob is already 7 year old and I have decided to give him $1 a day. I will also make him a chart. If he does everything on the chart he gets paid the fully $1. For everything he doesn't do, I will deduct 10 cents. Whining and throwing temper tantrums are also deductions. I will have him do things that really help me around the house (sorting his toys, cleaning his room, emptying the dishwasher, sweeping the floor). He also put his dirty clothes on the laundry basket and sort them out according to colors. Anything that will really help me can be a chore.

Busy, Fun and Productive Day!

Yesterday was a 'parent/teacher conference' at my son's school. We were scheduled for the 8:40am session and were able to talk with my son's teacher for at least 20 minutes. It was great to find out that J is doing pretty well in school we just need to help him with reading comprehension and managing his time wisely which is normal to kid his age. Anyway, after the conference, we headed to Tanger Outlet mall in Terrell to shop at Old Navy then headed for Rockwall to play bowling. Yes. we had a great day since there was no school yesterday. It was an enjoyable and tiring day, but we all had all fun! Before finally going home, we did a short visit with the Reamy's in their home at Scurry. After the visit, we finally went home with some firewood with us for our fireplace. By the time we got home, it's already dinner time. After unloading the firewood, we went out to eat dinner at a Chinese buffet restaurant. We ended the day doing Family Home Evening and a family prayer at 8:30 and in bed by 9:00...yeah I know it was that early to go to bed, but we were all tired.

I Need to Get Slim, Fast!

A Hoilday Well Spent with Friends

Our Christmas was spent at friends house this year.And we had so much fun! I like that we don't get to cook, clean up. I just brought a dish to share. After eating, we did talk, sang karaoke, and watched the kids play and sing as well. On New year's eve, we have the same just because January first is my friend's birthday. It would be celebrated together with hubby's and Earnest birthday as well which fall on January. Anyway, we are all excited for it and for our trip to Branson this week. With all these special occasions, there would be plenty of foods.

And diet is a must if we are to keep our weight :-); one more week and it would be my hubby's birthday, Marivic's and Earnest birthday, we couldn't wait!

MM: J's Extra Curricular Activity

Two weeks ago, we registered J to a basketball practice. We were surprised how much he likes the game. He is now learning some of the important moves in playing basketball. We hope he would continue to play for fun and not just for winning. Hubby and I decided that it is time for him to participate in sports so he would have more fun that going to school and home every school days. Plus, he needs some exercise, too!

Now, here is the photo I took on the first day of their practice. Some of the moves are harder than it looks and so he complains every once in awhile :-); but we keep encouraging him to practice often so he would get a hang of it....then later on it will be easier for him to make those necessary movements.

MM: Nutrition Tips

Health is one of the most important thing I instill in my son's mind. Eating a healthy balanced diet is part of his every meal. But what is a healthy balanced-diet composed of? To me, it is a meal consists of starches, vegetables and meat (white and red). In my house we are used to eating meals with the three major food groups. Fruits serve as desserts. I am glad that at Jacob's young age, he loves to eat veggies, fish, and salads. We also thought him that whatever is on the table, that he will eat...no special meal prepared for him. The only tip I can share with you guys is this: as soon as you baby is ready to eat solid foods....try to give then puree' fruits and veggies. If you do that...you will never have problem feeding them fruits and veggies. As we all know, most of the kids these days don't eat veggies and if they do...they only eat the ones they want to. I also believe in the saying that "you are what you eat." Parents should start teaching their kids the importance of being healthy...and that begins at home where their first teachers are their Mom and Dad. It works for me.

Jacob's First Day of School

Today was my son's first day of school. He is a 2nd grader now; how time flies. I miss my baby so much. He is growing like a seed and before I know it he would be leaving us for college :-(. Anyway, he was very excited on going back to school. He woke up early and prepared himself well. He was even looking for food to eat for his breakfast when hubby and I woke up! I still couldn't believe how excited he was! It was like the opposite of his feelings last year. When he got home from school this afternoon, he told us how much fun he had meeting his new classmates and teacher. I am so proud of my son. O i love you, Anak for making us proud parents!

Mommy Moments: Filipino Ako

The theme for this week on Mommy Moments is " Filipino Ako." Since my son was born here in United States and his Dad is a Caucasian, he doesn't have any picture wearing Filipino costume neither participated on Filipino week activity at school. But not having experienced those things, doesn't mean he can't be called a Filipino. He has a Filipino blood running in his veins and had come to love Filipino foods and little bit of mannerism like trying to eat using his own hands and sitting with one of his feet on the chair (just like some Filipino do particularly the seniors who lives in a province), lol. Yes, I do eat using my hands every once in awhile, but the thing about the foot...that I don't do and I think he got it from my Mom :-). He can say some Tagalog words like: kili-kili (underarm), ilong (nose), mata (eyes) and many more which is kind of funny to hear and makes me laugh. So, my son is a Filipino :-).

Visiting His Sister's Grave

Last memorial day, we did visit our daughter's grave with our son. Jacob has asked us many questions about his sister because even though we talked to him many things about Ruth, he still couldn't remember them for he was very young when we visited his sister. Now that he is 7 year old....he know his sister better now. As you can see on the picture...Jacob is happy to be next to his sister's grave. He loves her and couldn't wait to see her again someday in God kingdom....yea we all are anxious!

Gone Fishing

Last month, a friend of ours from Mesquite invited us over to go fish at the park. We weren't sure if we could come or not because hubby has changed his work schedule. His new schedule forced him to work on Saturdays, thus leaving Sunday to spend at church and home. Saturdays are gone...no more family time, time with friends and etc....We were sad, but what else can we do? Anyhow, we were supposed to meet them at the fishing place, but they weren't there. They left even before we got there thinking we weren't coming. Oh well, they should have phoned us first before leaving the place. Their absence didn't stop us from enjoying the fishing especially my son.

Here is my son having fun fishing, he didn't catch any, but he had fun! And that is what matters the most!

So thankful for my Dear Husband who took us there and dropped us back home before going to work that day. He was an hour late; thank to his colleague who understand his excused.

I gave birth to Jacob two months early. Both of us stayed at the hospital for a month. During those times, I tried to give Jacob breast milk while he was at NICU. Unfortunately, I didn't get much milk from me no matter how much I pump milk out of me. So, we decided to give him formula milk.

Our first meeting after three days. I was recuperating from C-Section while he was at NIU and I couldn't go there till I am able to walk.

During one of my visit with him at NICU where he smiled at me when I called his name :-).

He was at the incubator for three weeks because he needs to gain weight.

Now, my preemie is a healthy 6 year old who hadn't have any serious illnesses at all. God has blessed us with a beautiful baby whom we are and will always be proud of!

My son is very observant; he sees everything I do and say and follows them. Lately, he has been using his hands when we eat....because sometimes...I use my hands when we eat fish. Now, he uses his hands, too! Using hands at home when eating is fine with me....but not in public places like restaurants, Fast foods, and parties.

A friend of mine has a small home business. She is into desktop publishing and printing. She is not a graduate of any drafting or computer course, but she is self taught. She used to work in a company where she was assigned to make flyers, brochures and invitations. Because she did not have any background in drafting or anything that’s related to graphics, visuals and the like, she just had to learn how to make those documents. A program was installed in her office-issued computer and I remember her telling me that she would spend countless hours learning to make flyers, brochures, and other stuff. Working in that company for two years taught her a lot and within those two short years, she was able to hone her skills in desktop publishing. So when she settled down, she brought everything that she has learned to her own household.

She started a small printing business. First she accepted offers from her neighbors, like orders for wedding and birthday invitations. Since she lives near a school, soon the students came to her to avail of her services. Soon it progressed to making flyers and brochures and even to postcard printing postcard printing. Her knowledge on desktop publishing was put into good use. Till now, her family is reaping the benefits of what she has learned. Although it’s only a home-based business, she is able to make meager ends meet. She is able to provide for her family’s needs and their wants. She never thought that something she had no idea on how to do before will bring good fortune to her and her kin.

MM: Preggy Tales

Hubby and I wanted to have at least 2 kids, but because of my difficult pregnancy every time, one of our first baby died when she (Ruth) was still inside my tummy (stillborn). I was about 7 months pregnant with her when we found out the she stopped breathing during one of my routine check ups with my OB-GYNE. The reason wasn't clear yet, so they did an autopsy...the result was inconclusive :-/. My OB said that lack of fluid...but not really sure about it. What about that? Don't blame me if I hated that doctor for awhile there. To this day, hubby and I are wondering whether my hypertension and spilling of protein in my urine have something to do with it. The caused of her death is still a big puzzle to us. Anyway, whatever the reason was, we know God only know why. The only thing that give us comfort is that someday' we will be 'reunited with her' again. I do have a picture when I was pregnant with Ruth, but couldn't find it....same thing with Jake. So I am re posting this photo of Jake when he was at NICU.

After we lost Ruth, my Nephrologist advised me to not get pregnant again because it will be very risky for me and the baby, not to mention that it would make my kidney disease worst. And he was right. We didn't listen...we got pregnant again....yeah we planned it for we felt that God is going to bless us because we were doing the right thing.

Jacob was born two months early; he was a preemie and needed to stay at NICU for a month just to gain weight. He didn't have any medical issues...just needed to gain weight because he only weighed 4.3 pounds. I delivered him through c-section because he was coming out breech. I stayed at the hospital for three days; then was discharged only to go back again after four days for I had an infection. They open my tummy again to find out what was going on. I was at the hospital for a month. The doctors tried to figure out what was the caused of infection; with all the antibiotic I was taking...my fever still wouldn't go away...so the surgeon told me that they needed to open it again too determine the caused, and I said "NO!" I said: "if you do that again, I might not survive it. I feel fine and I think I am going to be alright without another surgery." And I was right. I recovered from that infection and went home with my son after a month.

Okay, the side effect of that second pregnancy was my kidney disease has worsen, and my kidney eventually failed. I have gone to a dialysis for 8 months, then had a transplant. It's been five years since the transplant and I am doing fine. Thank God for His wondrous blessings. With that, I am forever grateful for HIM! If you would ask me if I'd do it again, my answer is "YES!" I would do it over and over again!

Jake and The Easter Egg Hunting

This morning, my friend and I together with our boys woke up early today to go to the Easter Egg Hunting here in Heartland community. We went there early because we don't want to be late during the registration. The registration starts at 9am, but the actual games and activities didn't start till 10am, so the boys (Jacob and Aaron) had the chance of playing before the egg hunting begins. They had fun running around chasing each other together with their friends and classmates. They even rolled down the hill! Around 10:15am, the face painter lady arrived and started painting kids faces; good thing we were the fourth on the line. Jake had an Easter egg painted on his face while Aaron had a baseball and cap...they look so cute! After that, they join the games where they did the bear walk, walking backwards, and other. We were surprised they didn't have many games this year. Anyway, the egg hunting begins at 11:35am...and they had a blast though they didn't find the golden egg :-)

Well, it has been a busy week for us. My in-laws were here visiting us for four days. Prior to that, I was in so much stress. With all the things going on, it was so hard to clean the house and plan meals that they will love. Yup, they are one of those people who are not a fan of Asian foods, and so I can not cook Filipino or Chinese foods for that matter. Good thing I was able to served them foods that they love like the brussel sprout which my father in-law favorite and some collard greens that they craved. My mother in-law on the other hand loved the braised beef I made; she even asked for a recipe! Indeed, I made their stay enjoyable. I love to see my MIL read to Jacob and my FIL plays with Jacob. It was a treat for Jacob when they come visit us....for he misses them so much! This summer, Jacob will have a chance of visiting my parents and I am so excited. I couldn't wait till it's June so we can fly back to my native land.

This was Jacob's birthday party at home with friends last year. In three months time, he will be celebrating his 7th birthday. It would be different this time for he will have it celebrates three times; in the Philippines, since we will be there in July, here in Texas with friends, and in New Mexico together with my in-laws. It will be a blast! I am excited myself though it isn't my birthday, lol! I guessed am excited for him.

MM: Our Summer Plans

Summer here in United States doesn't start till June. So we still have two more months to enjoy the spring and Jacob's school. We are excited for his upcoming activities: the field day and the musical show. Anyway, since this week is all about plans for the summer, we have plenty of things to do this coming summer. First of all, our trip to the Philippines! It is exciting because for the first time, hubby is going to meet my family; second, we plan on going to the Hundred Islands, Subic, Batangas, Tagaytay. There will be some swimming, sight seeing, visiting friends and relatives, and who knows what else will happen. Though Jacob will be off to school for two months, we still plan on spending at least an hour or two everyday doing some review and preparation for 2nd grade. I bought a book review for first and second grader respectively, and those will help my son not able to forget what he learned and will be learning this year.

First of all, I'd like to congratulate my son, Jacob for being able to adjust with his new school, teacher and classmates this school year. As I mentioned before, he had hard time during the first four weeks of of school. He had anxiety, wouldn't want to go to school, crying, and sleepless night. Just the thought of going to school made him cry. He couldn't eat and do what he loves doing. We were worried for him. Thank God it is over now. Two more months and the school will be over...and with that we'd like to "congratulate" him. Great job son! You did it! Being the youngest in your class, you were able to rise up to the top and proved us how smart you are! You always excels though your teacher always tells us how talkative you are, lol. We are also proud of your achievements when you got medals from your karate school. Great job son...Daddy and I are so proud of you! We love you Son!

On Successful Business

Having your own business can be very stressful at times especially when you don't have many customers coming to the doorsteps of your business. Your investment is at stake and so as the every effort you are putting into it. I remember a time when my Aunt put up a small business near a college. It was a small cafeteria/internet cafe. She thought it would prosper because students will eat and use the computer at the same time while there. Little she knows, her business didn't succeed! Part of the problem why she lost it was because she wasn't there to supervise it; then she forgot that there were many restaurants and internet cafes there even before she started the business. Had she stayed there and studied things about small businesses and etc...her small business succeeded and she could be earning a lot now! I also think that she needs to advertise her business; for instance, having business cards to be given to customers, friends and even those people she meets wherever she goes could have helped boost her business.

What made me feel badly was when she blamed my brother for everything. How could she do that? My brother didn't even get paid for operating the cafeteria/internet cafe! That is what my sibling got for helping her. That experienced taught me a very good lesson. So when I put up my own restaurant in the future, I'll know what to do. And most importantly....I will never blame anybody for any mistakes I'll make. I will take full responsibility for every actions I will make. I have the talents, but that wouldn't be enough. I need training, funds, tools and of course business cards to make my business succeed!

Whatta Wonderful Week: #1

While reading comments on PMC at Facebook, I happened to read this meme from Trish, who is also another meme called "Just Beautiful." I found it very inspiring and so I decided to join and share some or few positive things that happened to me the past week. An here it is....just hoping it can help in anyway possible way :-)!

On Monday last week, hubby finally had his cyst on his back fixed. That cyst had became swollen, infected and it was very painful that made him complain a lot. He was really sicked for a week and almost gave up on his doctor's appointment and have other doctor drain it instead. With the help of my never tiring encouragements, he finally listen with me. He decided to wait for three days before the surgery day. I just want to make sure that it will be done the right and safe way. I love the doctor who did the surgery. He knew what is supposed to be done and he did! Hubby is now happy and the pain is gone. It's been a week and he is feeling a lot better. The would is healing well. I change the dressing everyday. One more week and it would be healed! Thanks to Almighty God for always guiding us in all our decision making.

Dr. Seuss Birthday

In celebration of Dr. Seuss birthday, my son's class had set aside a day reading books all day. Each kid that day has to bring a pillow, blanket and a favorite stuffed toy they can use while reading silently. They also need to bring books of their own to read. Jacob brought all the stuffs and his fave Dr. Seuss book which was the "The Big Blue Book of Beginner Books" consists of six books by Dr. Seuss. This book has "Put Me Into The Zoo, Are You My Mother?, A Fly Went By, The Best Nest, Go Dog Go, and the It's Not Easy Being Bunny."

Mommy Moments: Orange

Time flies so fast! We were so busy with all our doctor's visit this week that I just realized it is almost weekend. I couldn't believe it! Spring break is soon at hand....and for whatever reason I am excited! Maybe it is because hubby is planning to take us on a camping somewhere we have never been to. Anyway, here is my share for Mommy Moments this week. The theme is all about "Orange."

Daily Routines of A Six Year Old

I used to worry about Jake not putting his stuffs on their proper places after using them even though I told him many times! He needs to be reminded of what he needs to do everyday and that is driving me crazy! It seems to me like he is not listening to me at all. Or he don't remember it or even worst trying to ignore me on purpose! I couldn't figure out what was wrong! I felt like I failed as a mother. Worried, I started searching on the net for answers to my questions and this is what I have found:

At mealtimes, the six-year old has a very good appetite, though she tends to ask for more than she actually eats. Lunch is the favorite meal and she often wants a large bedtime snack.

Very few six-year olds will nap, but they will go to bed early. Six still needs at least ten hours of sleep each night. They enjoy the quiet time before sleep to hear a bedtime story and talk about their day.

Bathing is a bother to most six-year olds, especially boys. They have to be reminded to bathe thoroughly, to brush their teeth, and to wash hands. Six is not neat with his clothes and usually leaves clothes and shoes scattered everywhere. It might be a good idea to invest in some baskets that he can use to begin to learn the habit of keeping clothes off the floor. (adapted from Gesell, Ilg, & Ames)

A Swing Set for His Birthday

My husband and I have always wanted to buy our son a swing set because he loves it. Every time we go to the playground, the first thing he would do is sit on the swing set and swing as long as he could. But over time, we thought that a play set would be much better for it has every thing from swing set to slide. This would also be great for my son's birthday for we don't need to go to the playground for the kids to have fun and play.

Since his birthday is coming very, very soon...we are window shopping for a nice single post swing set as a present for our little guy. I am sure he would be very surprised! Anyway, I'd like to buy a trampoline as well for I like to join my son jumping on it. Oh man, I couldn't wait to have it set on our backyard. Can you tell who is excited the most!?

MM: Valentine's Day 2011

Unfortunately, hubby was sicked on Valentine's Day and so we didn't go anywhere. We just stayed home and enjoyed the dinner I made for us. He requested his fave foods which is Spaghetti with Meatballs (no spaghetti noodles so I used the wagon wheel noodles instead, lol), prepared some salad, too and garlic bread. In fairness, he did buy me gift two days prior to that and I was very pleased.

The 2 cards on the sides were from hubby and Jacob. The one in the middle was from me to hubby :-); they didn't buy me cards this time for they opted to make one for me. I love it when the card is handmaid and the messages are written from the heart! He was really sicked when he wrote the letter that is why he misspelled few words. Who cares! All I know is that he wrote the letter out of love....and was even better than a store bought VD card. Thank you so much, Honey!

It was a very touching letter and my eyes were teary as I read it.

I hope you realized how much joy you have brought into our lives. You are the answer to our prayer. God entrusted you to us; and we became HIS partners in nurturing and guiding one of HIS Spirit Children. We (Daddy and I) love you so much! We may not be the perfect parents for you but we are doing our best to bring you into light and truth. As I always tell you, both our lives were at stake when I gave birth to you, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I am willing to give my life to you because I love you. Our prayers is for you to grow up as a God fearing person and a good citizen of this world. You are a 'Child of God' and I want you to always remember that! Playing With Snow

Here we are playing with the snow. Jacob wanted to make a snowman but the snow doesn't stick together and so what we did was play a snowball fight, and walked around the neighborhood. Good thing the temperature has gone up a little bit. I even saw the sun setting while sitting in front of my computer. Hubby took these pictures in front of our house.

This song is dedicated to our daughter, Ruth who passed away even before she was borne.

This reminds me and my husband when we lost our first baby on stillborn. The lyrics of this song is what exactly we felt when we were grieving for our lost. "I remember thinking, "this is not real/true, this can't be happening, this isn't happening. I remember both of us crying out, I remember Matt crying out, I remember him holding me, and both of us sobbing." On that moment our bereaved life changes in the instant." I still cry every time I think of her... and blames myself for I think that it was all my fault why she died. The doctor tried to explain with me that it wasn't my fault or the things I did or didn't do. Can you blame me for feeling that way still? I love her so much! Though I know we would be able to be reunited with her someday, knowing that she not here, makes me feel empty still. She was back to Heavenly Father for a reason of which I don't know...but am sure she is happy that we are doing our "best" here on earth just to be with her someday! I know for sure that "Families Can Be Together Forever.....someday."

Mommy Moment: Jake's New Achievement

In November of last year, we enrolled Jacob at Karate and he likes it. He's been on karate lesson for two months now and is still enjoying and loving it. He not only made friends, but also more focus now. Just last before the end of the year, he got his new belt (orange) and attended his first tournament and was with "great punches and cool kicks". Yup, he got two medals for that. That was his new achievement so far!

He was shy showing his medals:-); but was very happy.

Washing the Car with Daddy!

Back in the old house where we used to live, I had fun washing our cars. It saved us money and they are so clean! I like washing cars for it gives me something to do and get busy with. It's been awhile since I last washed our car and for whatever reason, I don't feel like doing it anymore. Good thing my hubby doesn't ask me to do the washing; now that Jacob is six he helps Daddy wash our car and is having fun.

Here's the snapshots I took when they were washing the van before heading to New Mexico for Christmas wit my in-laws. It was a little bit chilly that time and all I did was dried it afterward :-). Don't you love having a little happy helper home? I do!

MM: Jake's New Toys/Stuffs

Christmas this year was well spent with my in-laws in New Mexico. It was a long travel but it was worth seeing my in-laws again. We had a blast especially our little guys here. He was able to go sledding, played with his Aunt and Uncle. He got a lot of cool presents like twisting car, mouse trap. bike, scooter, book, star wars lego and etc...

His fave of all the gifts, the book "Diary of a Wimpy Kid."

Jacob First Karate Tournament

My son had his first karate tournament before the end of the year. So far he did a good job. He was awarded with two medals. One for "great punches" and the other one for"cool kicks". We are so proud of you Jacob. Hope next time you'll get award from values you are working on. Congrats, Anak for getting your new belt (orange). We love you no matter what you do and whatever you get from attending your karate class.

Mommy Moments: Give Love On Christmas Day!

Talking about gifts to be given this Christmas, I'll say that the best thing I can give to someone is my unconditional love. I can easily give it to my family who loves me for what I am. Hubby told me not to give him any tangible things for he doesn't need them. All he asks is for me to be happy and get well. I can also see it when I look at my son's eyes. His cute little eyes tell me that he loves me and he understands what I am going through. My son already gave me my present when he prayed for me and my health. He was crying then and so was I.

My gifts for Jacob is a mouse trap game (for that is what he asked for), for hubby, a Seiko watch (though he didn't want anything), and hubby's present for me is a Coach purse. Isn't he generous or what?

My immediate families, relatives, friends at church and outside my faith had given me the gifts of love when they offered prayers and help during this trying times of our lives and we are grateful for that. This gift can never be bought neither replaced. It will be treasured forever in my heart.

Heavenly Father (God) is the perfect example of a generous gift giver when HE gave His Son (Jesus Christ) for us. No one in this world will ever do that, but HIM.

Now, what do you think you can give to Jesus and Heavenly Father this Christmas?

As for me, I would try to give service to anyone I know who are in need. Be more patient with my son, appreciate my husband more, and tell my parents how much I love them in words.

Mommy Moments: So Little

When Jacob was borne, he only weigh 4.3 lbs. He was so tiny for his age. The reason is that he was borne two months early (preemie). And so he stayed at NICU for a month just to gain weight; he had no medical condition that needs treatment or anything like that for that matter. So here are few of the photos taken three days after I delivered him on c-section. T'was our first time to see each other and my first time to hold him.

Jake Lost His First Tooth.

Jacob lost his first delicious tooth this morning. A week prior to that, he has been telling and showing us his loose tooth. Finally, when he woke up this morning, that tooth came out! He was very excited for whatever reason, lol. The thing is that we couldn't find it anywhere on the bed. It is probably somewhere on the floor in our bedroom. The tooth fairy on the other hand put a dollar under his bed the next morning, and Jake was very happy! One thing for sure, my son is growing so fast and I couldn't stop it. I want my baby boy back!

Missing Karate Lessons on Wednesdays

This day light saving time is not rally helping me nor Jake and his Dad at all. I prefer waking up still dark in the morning than taking my son to his karate lessons on a dark 6 o'clock evening. Yup, for the first time, Jacob missed his Wednesday lesson. Why? because I don't want to deal on heavy traffic that time...and I don't want to drive at night period. I also hate that hubby has to drive to work on a busy interstate with those crazy Texas drivers. But what can we do? He needs to work and all we can do is pray for his safety. Crazy drivers almost drove him off the road twice and that terrified me. Thank God, he is always protected and safe. Talking back on Jake's karate lesson, we are very excited for the coming exam/test in December. His instructors are busy teaching them steps and movements to prepare for that event, hopefully Jake, Seth, and Nicolas pass the test so their white belt would be replaced by an orange one. He is pretty excited....just the thought of getting new belt inspires him to listen and concentrate more to what his instructors have to say and do.

Our Karate Kid

Three weeks ago, we enrolled Jacob at Karate School. We are glad he liked it the first time he attended the try out. He loves attending his Tiger Tots class with all the younger kids. He goes 4x a weeks for 30 minutes each sessions. For Eeighty nine bucks a month, it isn't bad at all. We signed up a 6 months contract with a hope that Jake would learn more about discipline, focus, respect, self control, and strong body to name some and how important these things for his growth and welfare.

In his Tiger Tots class, there are seven of then...six boys and a girl. It is fun watching them learn basic movements and have fun at the same time.

One Chilly Morning

The weather has been nice lately. I can really feel that Christmas is past approaching. Oops, wait a minute...what I meant is fall. Yes, fall is here and I am loving it. It is chilly in the morning and that is why my son wears sweater and sometimes light jacket to keep himself warm when walking to school with us. I took this one last week; as you can see, even though it was cold then, he still mane to smile. Oh how I love it when my son is in the mood for a shot.

Isn't he cute? I love that the sweater looks good on him.

Jake's Very First RainCoat

Two months ago, we all woke up one morning and saw that it wan raining very hard. Before walking our son to school, I suggested to hubby that instead of walking Jacob to school that he'd better drive him instead. But he replied saying that it was okay to walk. If that is what he wanted to do, then I will not complain. Knowing our son, he wouldn't want to get wet and have his umbrella get twisted and be thrown by the wind. And so, I let him do what he wants; 10 minutes later, they came back all wet and mad with each other, plus Jake was crying and it upsets me. Oh well, I try not to say 'i told you so' but that time I didn't care...i said it. He then drove our son to school.

Anyway, that same day, we went ahead and bought our son a raincoat and a pair of boots at Walmart for they don't have any at the mall. Unfortunately, it never rain again since. The raincoat and boots were kept in the closet. Then one day, it rained a little bit, Jacob excitedly said that he wanted to wear them as he plays paper boat on the little paddle of water in front of our house. Here is a shot I took before he finally went out and played with his Dad.

We've Found New Friends!

This week, we attended a Family Fun Night at my son's school. It starts at 5:30pm with a free dinner (pizza and soda), followed by activities the school prepared for the kids with their parents. When we were eating dinner, my husband told me that the woman seating next to the table we were in is a Filipino. He asked me to talk with her, but I was hesitant because I wasn't really sure whether she is indeed a Pinoy. So hubby took the liberty of asking her and he was right! They are Pinoys; to make the story short, we talked and were able to get to know each other while our sons attended activities together. Not only I've found a friend, but also a walking buddy :-). Since then, we talk over the phone everyday and also walk on the park. Thank goodness, I finally found a friend, and she is a Filipino! Our sons are friends, too and belong to the same class.

Jacob's First Day of School

Here's a couple of pictures I took before my son went to school this fall. He looked happy and excited here, but it was actually the opposite. He had anxiety that time and didn't want to go to school. His anxiety lasted for two weeks. Hubby and I were relieved when he finally came back to his old self. Time flies so fast; I was very busy that I didn't even realize that it's almost weekend already. Time for Mommy Moments again. And here is my entry for this week with the theme: My Grandparents.

Mommy Moments: Wacky

This week's theme for Mommy Moments is "Wacky." Good thing I didn't erase these wacky photos of my son. He does wacky poses and make faces when he is tired of me taking pictures of him. Time flies so fast; my son used to like pictures and he would even ask me sometimes, but since he is no baby anymore, he wouldn't pose unless he wears something he likes....like the heroes costumes and stuff like that.

Trip to Costco

While at Costco yesterday, hubby and I had fun shopping for our food storage. We spent over $400 which is pretty much what we have expected considering the stuffs we bought will sustain us when emergency or disaster arise. They will also help us if unemployment visit us again. Since Costco had already displayed Halloween costumes for kids, we decided to buy Jacob his own Iron Man costume. It was a good deal compared to his costume last year and it fits perfectly on him when he tried it on yesterday. He loves it! We also got the keyboard key lighting for under 100 bucks so Jake would be able to learn basic steps on how to play it. I had fun playing with it myself :-).

I don't really have something special to give or pass on to my son when he grows up other than my love of learning. Hubby and I will give him the best education he could possibly have and our unconditional love for him. Jacob already inherited one which is the love of books; he loves to read and learn things. Hubby on the other hand has inherited an old chair from his Grandfather which will be pass on to our son when he gets his own place. I will take picture of it and add to this post later. Jacob's Separation/School Anxiety

Finally, after a week of struggles and anxiety attacked; our son is back to his old self again. His loves for school and learning is back. I thought that day would never come soon. Now, my worries are gone....he even found a friend to play with at his new school. I am so glad that Ms. Durbin (his teacher) is very kind and understanding. He knew what Jacob was going through and knew how to handle the situation; now Jacob loves his teacher and always talks about her.

Facts about school anxiety.
Recent studies show that anxiety disorders are one of the most common psychiatric conditions among kids, with as many as 10% suffering from them and requiring medical treatment. No studies have been conducted on how common school anxiety is, but some experts believe it's on the rise among younger kids, including preschoolers.

"Our society is expecting more and more from our kids at younger ages," says Sucheta Connolly, M.D., a child psychiatrist and director of the Pediatric Stress and Anxiety Disorders Clinic at the University of Illinois in Chicago, which treats children as young as 2. "And not all of them can handle it." But how do you know whether your child's protests are a ploy to avoid an uncomfortable situation or a genuine cry for help? In an interview with Child, Dr. Connolly explained how to tell the difference and outlined what parents can do to ease every child's entry into school.

From Excited to Terrified

The first day of school for my son didn't go well. Few days before the school starts, he was very excited and couldn't wait to go back to school just like he felt when he starts Pre K and Kinder. He loves going to school so much...loves to meet new friends...and new teacher, but not this year. The moment I woke him up to prepare for school, his facial expression changed....from excited to terrified! He didn't want to go to school, he hates school, and didn't want to miss Mommy. Despite of our encouragements, he made up his mind. He would rather stay with me than go to school.

My poor little man has a very bad anxiety attack! He wouldn't sleep, keeps asking me to promise to pick him up after school. Seeing him cries every time we drop him off to school breaks my heart. I don't have any choice but leave him there. The next day, he clings on to my shirt crying hard....his teacher has to call the guidance counselor for help. Hubby called later to find out if he is okay. He was fine few minutes after we left him said the guidance counselor. Her advise was to give Jacob a hug and kiss and leave right away when we drop him off the next day. Oh well, easier said than done....but we have to do it. She said in two weeks time, Jacob would be fine and get adjusted to his new school, teacher and classmates. Hubby and I are crossing our fingers with the hope that he would be okay.

Today, we did what the guidance counselor asked us to do, and it seems like it worked! When I picked him up today, her teacher said, Jacob was okay and was able to join the class quickly. Every once in awhile, he would look at his teacher and cries....but his teacher keeps on assuring him that everything will be okay and he would be going home soon.

I don't know what to expect tomorrow; all we can do is pray for him. Hubby and I are really worried for him. He has changed...from a happy little boy to a sad one. We can see in his eyes how much worries he has....If only I can take away that anxiety, I would do it. But how? What can I do to make him feel better and make him love his school again? I want my old son back!

Mommy Moments: Kids and Movies

We like to watch movies at home or at the movie house but didn't really think of taking pictures while while inside the movie theater....and so this is the only one I took before going inside :-). This was taken by the way last year (December) ready to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks :-). We don't really have preference as to what movie we would watch; as long as it is kid-friendly and is rated for GP. Anyway, we couldn't wait to see Nanny McPhee returns with the Frier's next weekend :-); this time will make sure to take photo of us :-).

Great Info about Wasp Spray

I know some of you own GUNS but this is something to think about...If you don't have a gun, here's a more humane way to wreck someone's evil plans for you. Did you know this? I didn't. I never really thought of it before. I guess I can get rid of the baseball bat.A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area was concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to rob them when they were counting the collection. She asked the local police department about using pepper spray and they recommended to her that she gets a can of wasp spray.....they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn't attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at home for home protection. Thought this was interesting and might be of use.

On the heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in Toledo dead, self defense experts have a tip that could save your life. Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview High School. For decades, he suggested putting a can of wasp and hornet spray near your door or bed. Glinka says, "This is better than anything I can teach them." Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so if someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says "spray the culprit in the eyes". It's a tip he's given to students for decades. It's also one he wants everyone to hear. If you're looking for protection, Glinka says look to the spray. "That's going to give you a chance to call the police; maybe get out." MM: Jacob Loves Books

Here is a video of Jake when he was a year old. I think he was trying to read book :-)

He does love book and has plenty of it in his bedroom, living room and our bedroom. His favorite are the Dr. Seuss and has a collection of them from The Cats in the Hats to the Oh the places you go. As I read these books to him, I, myself became fan of it and mg favorite is the "Are You My Mother? I didn't take pictures of his books in his bookshelf but has for some of the books he has been busy reading this summer.
